NORA.startup webinar #23: AI, Misinformation and Social Entrepreneurship
The Facebook Whistleblower, Frances Haugen recently made the world understand that Facebook has a long way to go to become a responsible social platform. This included a lack of handling misinformation and the lack of resources dedicated to handle misinformation in different languages. It was also in late 2021 that the Norwegian Data Protection Authority decided to leave Facebook following their public statement: “Risk assessment: Should the Norwegian Data Protection Authority create a Page on Facebook?” Many questions follow as to what the alternatives should be to communicate with the public on social platforms. Can social entrepreneurship from a startup handling misinformation contribute to making online platforms safer? Should we help Facebook understand the Norwegian language, or do we simply have to build a platform for citizens ourselves? Can a regulatory AI sandbox help?

“Social entrepreneurship is an approach by individuals, groups, start-up companies or entrepreneurs, in which they develop, fund and implement solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues.”
